Local Senior Forums exist to represent the views and interests of all older people in their local area.

COMMITMENT

Members of forums are aged 55+ and are expected to attend a meeting once a month. Local issues relating to older people are raised and action is taken to solve them.

BENEFITS

Joining a local senior forum can have many benefits. It gets you out and about and keeps you physically and mentally active. You can make new friends, increase your social contacts and take pleasure in helping others less fortunate than yourself.

Traditionally, service providers have been slow to consult with older people, on their needs, in any meaningful way. The seniors’ movement in the West of Scotland strives to give older people a voice, so that their needs, views and demands are heard. By joining together as a strong united voice, older people can demand a better deal. By refusing to accept poor or inappropriate services, seniors can force service providers to listen to their views and act on them.

Who are we?

West of Scotland Seniors Forum (formerly Strathclyde Elderly Forum) is Scotland's foremost seniors grassroots representative organisation. We represent the interests of 400,000 seniors in the 12 unitary authority areas in the West of Scotland and are the umbrella body for 90+ local Senior Forums.

West of Scotland Seniors Forum believes that every older person is entitled to a secure, dignified and independent retirement.

We work towards raising awareness of issues affecting older people and ensuring that decision-makers and service providers are informed about older peoples needs and views on service provision and other matters affecting them.
